We missed the mutz, not the dairy.
VeganMutz started in a Hoboken kitchen with one stubborn goal: make a plant-based mozzarella that actually melts and stretches like the real thing.
Growing up around North Jersey delis, “mutz” meant fresh mozzarella — pulled by hand, melted over everything. When we went plant-based, the one thing we couldn't replace was that gooey, stretchy pull. The store-bought vegan cheeses just sat there.
So we started experimenting. Coconut oil, cultured bases, the right starches, a lot of pizzas. After more test batches than we'd like to admit, we landed on a mozzarella that melts golden, stretches for the camera, and tastes like the real mutz — entirely dairy-free.
Today we make a full line of plant-based cheeses — blocks, shreds, slices, cream cheeses and more — for everyone who wants the comfort of cheese without the dairy.
